Pot Luck: The Massive One

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

We pulled everyone together again for a pot luck. This time, it was officially “Chinese Food Only” and we had all about 12 folks over, most of them.. my ex- schoolmates. Steven brought 2 types of chicken, 1 herbal and the other salted chicken. Hui Gin, Jacob & Aun Nee made the mouth watering chicken curry. Melissa & Ashwin with the vegetables and her refreshing signature “Old Cucumber Soup”. “Juhu char” from my mom, a signature family recipe all the way from my grand. Kar Hooi & myself, the drunken claypot fish. All in all.. we had about 12 folks. This was certainly like a reunion dinner.. ahead of chinese new year. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. All pics are NBS.. (No brainer shots). We were so damn hungry we normally dont set up for food shots.. hehee…

The injured chicken by Steven. (Injured: Came with missing drumstick. Steven alleges that the tester had to try the chick out. Currently, we still suspect foul play)

The Foodnorgraphy.

(Food + *you know the word..*)

The quest for the perfect spaghetti started 4 years back when I was in Xiamen, China visiting my sister and Matt, the producers that brought you my cutest nephew “Eric the Playful & Grumpy Conman”.

We were at this restaurant very close to the University of Xiamen by the name of “Black Sugar”. I ordered the spaghetti seafood marinara (cream-based) as recommended by Karen and it was then when I fell in love with the taste of spaghetti. I’ve never came across something that good and the dish was simply fantabulous. *mmmmmmmmmm…*

Ever since then, I’ve been trying out spaghetti in restaurants all over Penang (for now) and occasionally finding one that kind of meets the quality that I seek only to realize that the taste deteriorates over time. It was probably due to change of chefs as I could tell the presentation on the plate and the quality of ingredients was simply no longer the same.

Changing of chefs is pretty common in the restaurant business considering that every 2 out of 3 restaurants won’t survive after 2 years of operation (if they even last that long).

So, in search for the perfect “Spaghetti”, I’ve once in a while try to achieve a recipe that I hope could blow my mind right out window. I’m still far from that…

Last weekend, myself and Kar Hooi tried another spaghetti dish. “Spaghetti with Simple Tomatoes and Salmon”. The first one we did, it went down our tummy even before I got the camera out.

This is a result of the quality time spent over the weekend and we were both pretty happy with the results. (However, I secretly think that she’ll grow sick of spaghetti before I’m even halfway to reaching the perfect one.. hehe)

Hope you guys like the photo. It’s a no-brainer shot :)
